K.m knitwear pvt ltd, a success story on apparel exports from india shri k.m. subramanian, founder and chairman of the km group of companies in tirupur, has three decades of expertise in the textile sector. his humility, clarity, daring dexterity in challenging environments and his leadership qualities have been instrumental in making him one among the top in, what is a highly competitive textile industry. today, the km group of companies is environmental friendly with fully vertical infrastructure facilities from fibre to fashion. under his leadership, the company has scaled new heights and become top ten exporters in tirupur. he started km knitwear in 1993 with an investment of rs.1 lakh in the garment business, in 1997 started exporting garments with an annual turnover of 2 crores which was his first turn around moment. to compete in the world market, he planned to make k m knitwear group as a one stop solution for all fashion needs. in 2003, he started the spinning division and in 2008, he started his own processing and printing division in the name of jeyavishnu clothing private limited. since then, a corrugation box manufacturing unit and 10 garment manufacturing units were continuously set up to cater the needs of growing business. the entire business is monitored by centralised erp system. now, km stands tall with a capacity of 6500 sewing machines manufacturing 25 lakh garments per month, 72000 spindles of spinning capacity with yarn and processing output of 50 tonnes a day with an annual turnover of rs.850 crores. we have invested more than 100 crores in the recent years for environmental sustainability and green energy which is 25% of our capital investment. to reduce the carbon foot print k.m.knitwear has installed 30 mw of windmill and solar power and planned to be carbon neutral company very soon. to make our planet green, in 2017 we joined hands with vanathukkul tirupur and planted 11,000 saplings in our land at ponnapuram village, and 6000 saplings at pongulur and maintaining it well till date. our processing unit was one of the very few to receive the coveted “green award 2018” from the tamilnadu government for its sustainable and environment-friendly operations. giving employment to more than 7000 workers,70% of the entire work force are women employees and in that 20% of women take various leadership roles. we provide extensive training to new employees and constantly conduct skill development program to our existing workers. we provide higher and college education to our work force and also incentive them regularly based on their performance. to match the current world market trend and a continuous effort to diversify within the business, we are slowly shifting from manufacturing traditional cotton garments to conventional, recycled and mmf. to be part of global supply chain, all our groups are certified with oeko tex, gots, grs, ocs, iso 9001,14001 and 45001, sedex, higg index, swan and wrap to name a few. two of our factories are green factory certified with platinum rating.
