Pleating is an important component of dress designing and stitching. Pleats are categorised as pressed, that is, ironed or otherwise heat-set into a sharp crease, or unpressed, falling in soft rounded folds. Pleats may also be partially sewn flat and allowed to fall open below. Most ladies dresses and mens trousers have pleats of different types. The major types of pleats are - accordion pleats, box pleats, cartridge pleats, fluted pleats, fortuny pleats, honeycomb pleats, knife pleats, organ pleats, pliss pleats, rolled pleats, and watteau pleats.
